Psalm 1 Psalm 1 1. In order to be blessed, what is a person not to 'walk' in? vs. 1 -Counsel of the ungodly 2. In order to be blessed, what is a person not to 'stand' in? vs. 1 -path of sinners 3. In order to be blessed, who is the person not to 'sit' with? vs. 1 -scornful 4. In order to be blessed, what should a person 'delight' in? vs. 2 -the law of God 5. How often should a person 'meditate' on God's Word (law)? vs. 2 -day and night 6. If a person takes delight in God's Word and meditates on it day and night, he will be like a tree that is firmly planted by streams of water. When will that person (like a tree) bear fruit? vs. 3in its season 7. This person (like a tree) will have leaves that do not wither. What kind of life will they lead? vs. 3prosperis life 8. In contrast to the firm tree, what are the 'wicked' like? vs. 4 chaf which the wind drivesth away 9. Where will the wicked 'not stand'? vs. 5 in the sit of rightous 10. Where will the sinners not be? vs. 5 stand in judgement 11. What does the Lord know about? vs. 6He knoiw the way of the rightous 12. What will happen to the 'way' of the wicked? vs. 6 they shell perish. Applications 1.  This is basically a psalm of two paths in life; one with God or one without God.  If we walk, stand, and sit in God's presence, our life will be blessed (or happy).  If we choose instead the ways of the world, we will have an empty life without roots or fruit or true happiness.  What did Jesus teach us about the two paths in life and how did His beautitudes compare to this Psalm?  Comment on the following Scriptures about choices we make everyday to walk with God rather than in the ways of the world. Matthew 7:13,14 -That  He is  thek only way stright is the way.  Alot of people thaink  that  you can just go to church  on Sunday and  live  anyway that you want the rest of the  week this  is not  true.  You have  to  be Christ like 7 days a week in all that you say and do. Matthew 7:24-27 -  Christ  teachings are  of God  and if  we listen and learn  form them  then  this means  that  we  are willing to follow them  if we do  them then  It  will not  matter what satan or  other people say or do  to us  we know  that  we are doing  the will of God  each day of our lives. Matthew 5:3-11 -  God's kingdom is totally different  then  any place  down here.were  money power and fame means  everything  here it  will mean nothing  to us there.  We nee to  make sure that  our attitude is of God's kingdom and not  of men kingdom. Romans 12:1,2 -God only  wants  what  is best for us so  to present  our bodies as living for his  will  is only do what  is best for us. Colossians 2:6-8 - This  verse let's us know  that  we  are to walk with  Christ aned eb rooted in  him.  To do  this means that we need to study God's word daily and praying for guidence each day. 2.  Do these verses mean that the godly are not to associate with the ungodly? Why or why not?  Comment on the following Scriptures: Matthew 9:10-13 - No  If this  was true then  were  would  wach of  us  be  we are sinners  only  saved by the grace of God. Matthew 28:19,20 -  In this  verse we are told  to go  unto all nations  and teach God's word.  This  does not  mean  to judge  them but  to  teach them  what  God  put  our hearts  to teach  them about  him. John 17:15-18, 23 - Jesus tell us  that  he  is in us and we  in him so that means that He  will  help  us  teach others . 3.  Although we are to be lights in the world to influence those in darkness to come to the Lord Jesus to be saved, we are not to walk with them, stand with them, and sit among their scoffing.  In other words, we are to expose them to life and light, but not blend into their darkness and philosophies of life.  We are to be salt and light.  Comment on the following Scriptures: Romans 12:1,2 -  We  my live in this  world for  a little  while  but  we are not  to of this world.  We are  to show others  the love and mercies  of God . 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 - We  are God's people and are not  to  agree with  unbelives if it  is wrong in the Bible  then  it is  wrong here for us  to do it  or say it. Ephesians 5:1-21 - wrong is  wrong sin is sin in God's eyes and should  be in our eyes as well. Philippians 2:14-16 -  What  ever God  asked us  to do  we need to  do  it  with a happy  heart.  Look what  He did for us  he gave His only son  to die for us so there should be nothing  that He  asked  us  to  do should  we complain  about. 1 Peter 2:9 - We  are to  achoosen people and be Holy  to  God  so that our lives  will represent Him at all times. 1 John 2:15-17 - We  are  not  of this  world and  should not  try to do  the things  that  are a sin  to  God  that this world  does. 3.  When we meditate upon God's Word day and night, we will be like a tree that is firmly planted by streams of water.  This tree is constantly nourished so that roots grow deep and the inner life is strong.  Jesus told us that when we believe in Him, we will have rivers of living water running through us.  Comment on the following Scriptures: John 4:10-14 When  we study God's word  daily and pray  to  him for leadership in our lives  we willbe firmly planeted on hos  word and satan  will not  be  able  to lead us  in  the  ways  that  are not  pleasing  to God. John 7:37-39 - We  have  to belive  that Jesus  was and is God son and to try to live  the life  that  he did. 4.  As we drink of God's Spirit daily and feast upon His Word, we become a strong tree that can withstand the storms of life.  We will bear fruit in our seasons and prosper in all that we do.  This means that our energy and light continue to help others and we continue to be a guide for others who need direction and wisdom.  In other words, we bear the fruits of His Spirit as we walk in fellowship with Him.  Comment on the following verses: John 15:4,5 -  We  have  to  live  our lives  the  way Jesus did and relie  on him to help us  to  bear the  fruit  that  we need to  for our Heavenly Father.  we can't  do  this  on our  own  we Jesus  help daily. John 15:7-11 - When  we  live  with  Jesus  daily  in our hearts and  love  him  He  keeps  his Father  commandment so  in  him so  can  we. John 15:16 - We  did not  choose Jesus  but  he chose us. Galatians 5:22-26 - Philippians 4:11-13 - Colossians 1:10 - 4. When we delight in God's Word, there are blessings that await us there!  What are some of these blessings we can expect according to Psalms 119?  Comment on the following verses: 119:11-  We  need to  make sure  that  we  remember  what  is  in God's word and apply it daily  in our lives. 119:14 - God's  owrd  is  treu and  we are  rich  because  of it. 119:24,25 -  We need to daily  cleave unto God's word and unto him. 119:28 - God 's word  will give us strenght daily. 119:37,38 - we need  to  asked God daily  to  help  us  do the  things  tha he needs us to do and not  just  go our own way. 119:45 -  119:49,50 - we can  always  relie on God's word. 119;52 - 119;66,67 - we need to let  God  lead us and teach  us  the way  that  he wants us to go. 119:71,72 - 119:92,93 - As children  of  God if  we don't study  daily  and  do  the will of God we  will find  that  we will be easy turned  back  in to  the  world  of sin. 119:98-100 - Because  we  Have  God's  word  we should  be wiser then the ones in David's time.  we Have the  word  of God that  we can study and read for wisdom to do  his will each and everyday.  Sometimes  we  take  it  for granted but I wonder what  would  happen  If we didn't  have  is?  How many of us would  be lost with  out  been able to read and study daily from our bibles? 119:103,104 - God's word  should  be  sweet  to us and we  should enjoy doing  his will. 119:105 -God's word  guides  us each and every way of  ou lives. 119:107 119:130 -God's  word  is to read in  the spririt and praying To God  for understanding  . 119;147,148 - we need  to focus  night and day on God's word. 119:162 - we need  to  love  to study God's  word and  nto  ike  it  is something  we  have  to do  but  that  we  really want to do. 119:165 - what ever people say about  us and  us serving  Giod should  not upset us but rejoice  because  this  is satan way  of trying to get us  to stop serving him. 5. The Lord knows the way of the righteous. He is aware of every person and their motivations.  1 Chronicles 28:9 - we need  to serve  thei Lord with  a will  mind and  heart.  God  know  all about us our thought even before we do.  Proverbs 16:2 - to men  we  can acted as chraistan because  they  only see the  outtward man  but  God  knows  our  hearts  so we need to  be very sure that  we  are a chil of God. Proverbs 21:2 - we may  think  that  we are doing God's will but  we better be sure  that  we  are in His will. Ecclesiastes 12:13,14 - we  should  be willing  to do God's will.  He sent  his son  for Us  so thos  is the lest  we  can do for Him. Jeremiah 17:9,10 -ONly God  and ourselves  know  our  hearst. Luke 16:15 - Instead of  making  ourselves look good  before men we need  to be sure  were  our  hearts stand  before God. Acts 15:8 - God  knowing  our  hearts  just  as  He  gave  them  the Holy  ghost  back then so will he us. - 1 Corinthians 14:25 - God  will make  it know  to  peolearound  us  that  we are children  of  hi  in his won way and we need to  worship  him  in all things. 2 Timothy 2:19 - Hebrews 4:12,13 - 6.   Look at the photo below of the tree planted by the streams of water.  As we continue in God's Word, His Spirit will be like rivers of living water, giving us strength, wisdom, and all the nourishment we need to thrive in this life.  We will bear fruit in our seasons and be a blessing to others.  To get the image of the tree embedded in our minds and hearts, comment on the following Scriptures as well.
